Bossier City church collects wigs for cancer patients

After a television program highlighted women who lose their hair after having cancer, members of Harvest Temple Church of God in Christ in Bossier City sprang into action.

"They collected 147 wigs throughout the month of January to donate to the American Cancer Society," said Brooke Henry, marketing specialist with the local American Cancer Society. "They decided they wanted to help and bring happiness to others. The wigs have been collected mostly from church members and the community."

Pastor Ted Scott said, "Our church is heavily involved in mission work and this is a beginning stage for our church. We plan to continue doing this in the future."

Henry said the wigs have helped because "cancer does not have to take away a woman's self-confidence."

In fact, she said, a story in last week's Shreveport Times prompted a generous giver based in Florida to send three more new wigs for the cause.

"They are really great new wigs, too," Henry said. She said the church has a lot of European style wigs....
